What is it?
Carpenters perform various kinds of construction jobs. They construct, erect, install and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard, using carpente's hand tools and power tools.

What will I learn?
As a carpentry student, you will learn to layout, erect, install and repair wooden, metal or concrete structures or fixtures, using both hand and power tools. You will learn to use rulers, squares, levels and other measurement devices. When constructing anything, your basic tools will be a saw and hammer. Power tools you will use include drills, circular saws, saber saws, table saws, radial saws, shapers, edgers and planers. These tools are used to shape and size wood materials into appealing, useful products. You also will learn basic employability skills to help you obtain and retain a job in this field.
What kind of job will I be able to get?
Job titles include carpenter helper, carpenter, apprentice, framers, roofers, drywall installers, construction supervisors, independent contractors and estimators.
How much will I earn?
Beginning wages range from $7 to $10 per hour. Additional training through apprenticeships or on-the-job training will upgrade your skills and help expand your career options. On an average, carpenters earn between $24,000 and $55,000 per year. |
