Center Life

A typical day at North Texas Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10:30 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

North Texas Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day.

We offer intramural sports with men's and women's teams. The intramural sport league includes volleyball, basketball, softball, dodgeball, and flag football.

Students can also participate in tournaments for games such as pool/billiards, foosball, cards, chess, dominoes, and checkers.

We have also a variety of clubs and organizations on center. Students have the opportunity to start their own clubs that may benefit the student body and our center.

Social events like dances, talent shows, and movie nights are regularly scheduled by our Recreation Department. We occasionally have comedy acts and motivational speakers at the center.

Our Recreation Department also conducts recreational activity classes. Arts and crafts sessions are available five days a week for students who like to draw, paint, or be creative. In our weekly physical education classes, students learn the fundamentals of stretching properly and basic sport techniques. Leadership retreats are also available for students wanting to develop their leadership qualities.

Off Center trips allow students to visit local attractions and events such as:

  • Arcades
  • Bowling alleys
  • Community service events
  • Miniature golf courses
  • Movies
  • Parades
  • Professional sporting events
  • Shopping malls
  • Zoo

We conduct monthly meetings with our students to get their feedback about our recreational programs. Of course, students are always welcome to make their suggestions for new or existing activities to any member of our recreation staff.

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
