Culinary Arts

What is it?

The Culinary Arts skill is structured to prepare you for profitable work in food services. Because of the many food-related services available, there are many positions for students entering the job market from this skill.

What will I learn?

You will learn basic employability skills necessary to obtain and retain a position in a food-related area. You will learn basic culinary skills such as professional baking, dining room and banquet management, waiter and waitress training, food and area sanitation, proper cleaning and sanitizing, and equipment safety. You will learn how to follow recipes as well as use math skills to measure, double recipes, etc. You will also learn more advanced skills such as using food for decorations, planning and preparing luncheons, purchasing food and supplies, etc.

What kind of job will I be able to get?

Job titles include institutional chef, institutional cook, and bread or pastry baker.

How much will I earn?

Wages for Food Service employees range from $5.69 to $10.36 per hour.
