Electrician

What is it?

A career as an electrician involves installing, testing and maintaining electricial wiring, equipment and systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings.

What will I learn?

In addition to learning employability skills that help you obtain and retain a job in this vocational skills area, you will learn electrical theory and the basics of residential and commercial wiring. Students will gain knowledge in circuitry, use of hand tools, proper safety practices and blueprint reading.

What kind of job will I be able to get?

Electrical trades are extremely varied. Electricians may work in residential, commercial or industrial wiring or maintenance of electrical equipment. Motivated students may continue their education in college by pursuing a degree in electrical engineering.

How much will I earn?

Although entry level wages usually range from $8 to $10 an hour, electricians often earn hourly wages ranging from $15 to $26.50.
