Plumbing

What is it?

Plumbing involves the installation and maintenance of residential, commercial and industrial water piping systems as well as the indentification of water pipes, gas pipes and fittings related to pipe cutting and joining. The trade also involves maintenance and repair on main sewer drains and conducting checks on main plumbing systems.

What will I learn?

Once you have completed the Job Corps Plumbing vocation you will be able to to identify and use basic hand, power and pipe tools. You will also be able to demonstrate personal, shop and electrical safety procedures according to OSHA regulations as well as first aid techniques. You will also learn how to perform basic math applications and install water pipes and DWV pipes of various materials, such as copper, PVC, black iron and cast iron. You also will learn employability skills that will help you obtain and retain a job in this vocational field.

What kind of job will I be able to get?

After completing your plumbing training, you will be able to work as a plumber in construction, and/or in general contracting and maintenance.

How much will I earn?

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook the national average wage for Plumbers ranges from $9.20 to $32.27 per hour.
